WHO Delegation Visits VBC Headquarters to Discuss Vaccine Localization in Egypt

The Vaccines and Biotechnology City (VBC) and its sister company MEVAC welcomed a high-level delegation from the World Health Organization, headed by Dr. Hanan Balkhy, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, and Dr. Neama Abid, WHO Representative in Egypt, and their respected team at the company’s headquarters in Cairo.

The visit aimed to discuss localizing vaccine production in Egypt in line with WHO priorities as well as national and regional health needs.

During the meeting, Dr. Magdy El-Sayed, CEO of VBC, presented the city’s vision and strategic objectives. Dr. Hanan Balkhy praised the existence of such a pioneering entity, describing it as a cornerstone for advancing vaccine manufacturing in the region.

Dr. Neama Abid also emphasized the strong alignment between the Egyptian Ministry of Health’s priorities and its current and future vaccine needs, reaffirming WHO’s readiness to share updates and developments with all relevant stakeholders effectively and continuously.

The meeting also included a detailed presentation by Dr. Karim Darwish, the company’s Commercial Director, on the targeted vaccines and priority assessments in line with the organization’s declared directions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to achieve common goals in safeguarding public health and strengthening health security in Egypt and across the region.
