Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority

The Egyptian Drug Authority discusses cooperation with Uganda’s Ministry of Health and VBC to enhance the export of Egyptian medicines and vaccines and support healthcare in Uganda.

Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawi, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), received a delegation from the Ugandan Ministry of Health, along with representatives from Egypt’s Vaccine and Biotechnology City (VBC), to explore opportunities for cooperation in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed establishing partnerships and cooperation protocols to facilitate the flow of Egyptian human medicines and vaccines into the Ugandan market. The talks also addressed ways to ensure greater availability of Egyptian medical products, thereby contributing to improved healthcare services in Uganda.

The Ugandan delegation was also briefed on Egypt’s successful experience in eliminating Hepatitis C, and praised the role of the EDA in supporting the Egyptian pharmaceutical sector, particularly in advancing drug development and fostering innovation.

Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawi expressed his delight in engaging with Ugandan counterparts and emphasized the EDA’s commitment to supporting Uganda’s healthcare system by sharing expertise, facilitating processes, and working alongside Ugandan partners to make Egyptian medical products more accessible in the Ugandan market.

The Ugandan delegates commended Egypt’s strengthened pharmaceutical regulatory framework, highlighting its recent World Health Organization (WHO) accreditations in both vaccines and medicines, and voiced their interest in pursuing closer collaboration with Egypt in the pharmaceutical field.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Magdy El-Sayed, CEO of VBC; Dr. Karim Darwish, Commercial Director of VBC; Dr. Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary of the Ugandan Ministry of Health; Mr. Joshua, Technical Policy and Planning Advisor at the Ugandan Ministry of Health; as well as senior EDA officials including Dr. Amani Goudat, Assistant to the Chairman and Supervisor of the Central Administration of the Chairman’s Office; Dr. Osama Hatem, Assistant to the Chairman for Policy and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration of Pharmaceutical Policy and Market Support; Dr. Amira Mahgoub, Head of the Central Administration of Operations; Dr. Hadir Abdel Fattah, Director General of the Investment Support Department; and Dr. Hebatallah Ibrahim, Director General of the Biological Products Registration Department.

This meeting comes within the framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s strategy to advance pharmaceutical policies, strengthen international partnerships, and strike a balance between ensuring availability, enhancing exports, and guaranteeing the quality and effectiveness of medicines.
